Thanksgiving and Fall Windows

Work starts to pick up in the fall.  It’s a primer to the busy Christmas season, which I totally love.

I tweeted how I put a little bit of Nebraska in the middle of Brooklyn today!

Here is Bay Ridge Pizza, Bay Ridge Brooklyn.  I did these windows the day before I did Fortunatos.

I always seem to finish up at night so these windows are kind of dark.  I have to come back and take pictures during day light hours.

Here is Capri-Jet Fall windows.  Did these back in September.

I’ve been a twitter person for about 4 years.  I recently downloaded the periscope app and it’s a blast!  Periscope is a live feed.  It’s like turning on a camera in a tv studio for a live show.  I show how I paint or a live view of my finished work.

Hey, when it says one person has joined to view my live feed I am stoked!  That’s right, that one person may be from Russia or Venezuela!

Come join me!       periscope

Looking forward to Christmas windows!

Thanksgiving Windows at Fortunatos

Two weeks ago was the last of the Thanksgiving windows.  Fortunato Brothers is a locally famous coffee and pastry shop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.  If you are looking for a really good cappuccino, then this is the place.  (Forget Starbucks)

It takes me between 8 and 9 hours to complete these windows in one day.   As usual, I draw the design in black paint first.

The people in the pictures are locals that come in every day.

Since we recently had daylight savings time it starts to get dark early.  By 5:15 it is completely dark.  Once night has fallen, and the main source of light is now from inside the shop, the opaqueness of the windows reverses itself.

Here’s my buddy Salvatore.

As I quietly paint throughout the day I am privy to snippets of lots and lots of conversations.  I am that fly on the wall!  Through the years I have heard many interesting things.

On this particular day, there was a couple literally sitting there for four hours; mostly him talking about his life.  They totally drove me nuts!  They met online and were on a first date.  He was 52 and she was a few years younger.  It wouldn’t have been so bad but this guy was so full of himself I had to bite my tongue from making any comments.

Near the end of this torturous time I found out he was a lawyer.  Hmmmmm.  As for her –  she needs to keep looking.  I was really happy when they finally got up and left.

One of the best things about painting at Fortunatos is that they let me have full creative reign.  On this day I decided that if the turkey could talk this is what he would say.

This is the outdoor smoking lounge.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  I personally cooked the turkey at too high of a temperature and it came out dry but my stuffing was awesome!

Thanksgiving Windows at Bay Ridge Pizza

On Saturday, November 5th, I drove to Bay Ridge Brooklyn.  My friend Gaspar owns Bay Ridge Pizza on 5th Avenue.  He was a new client from last year.  One of the best things about painting his windows is that when I am done I get to eat whatever I want from the menu.  Don’t let that big Pizza sign fool you.  He has some of the best Italian dishes around.

This is how I start.  I draw everything out before adding the colors.

Some designs call for standing on a ladder.

And here is the “After” picture.

Here’s Gaspar taking a break from the kitchen to inspect my finished work.  That smile on his face is a good sign.

Bay Ridge Courier voted Bay Ridge Pizza the Best in town.

Lastly, I decided on the pasta fagioli with freshly baked Italian bread.  It was delicious!
